- Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) without lymphangiectasia
Contraindications:
- Patients where the primary therapeutic goal is to avoid fluid retention or prevent the accumulation of nitrogenous by-products, phosphorus or sodium
- Patients that cannot tolerate high-fat intake
- Patients with hepatic encephalopathy, hyperlipidemia, pancreatitis, history of pancreatitis or at risk of pancreatitis
Feeding Advice
- It is recommended that a veterinarian’s opinion be sought before use and during the period of use
- Individual requirements will vary depending on pre-existing nutritional status and medical condition
- Consult with the treating veterinarian to establish a feeding guide for the individual patient
- This food is intended for intermittent feeding only
- Divide into three to six equal daily feedings to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. (1 can = 150 ml.)
- In patients where normal G.I. function has been compromised by anorexia, a three-day transitional feeding strategy may be necessary
- Utilize resting energy requirement (RER) as the initial goal for daily caloric intake
- The following daily caloric intakes are intended as a guide and should be adjusted as needed depending on the patient's response
- Day One: 1/4 of daily caloric intake (RER)
- Day Two: 1/3 of daily caloric intake (RER)
- Day Three: 1/2 of daily caloric intake (RER)
- Day Four: 2/3 of daily caloric intake (RER)
- Day Five: 3/4 of daily caloric intake (RER)
