Indications

  • For the treatment and control of roundworms (including arterial larval stages of Strongylus vulgaris and benzimidazole-resistant small strongyles), bots, and skin lesions caused by Habronema and Draschia spp. (summer sores) and Onchocerca spp. microfilariae (cutaneous onchocerciasis)

Controls: 

  • Large Strongyles - Strongylus vulgaris (adult and arterial larval stages), Strongylus edentates (adults and tissues sages), Strongylus equinus, (adults), Triodontophorus spp. (adults), and Craterostomum acuticaudatum (adults)
  • Small Strongyles: Including benzimidazole resistant strains of adult and immature: Cyathostomum spp., Cyclicocyclus spp., Cylicostephanus spp., Cylicodontophorus spp., Gyalocephalus spp., Coronocyclus spp., Parapoteriostomum spp., Petrovinema spp., and Poteriostomum spp.
  • Pinworm: Oxyuris equi (adult and immature)
  • Ascarids (roundworm): Parascaris equorum (adult and immature)
  • Hairworm: Trichostrongylus axei (adult)
  • Large Mouth Stomach Worm: Habronema muscae (adult)
  • Neck Threadworm: Onchocerca spp. (microfilariae)

Dosage

  • Administer 1.07g per 100kg of body weight orally
  • One 6.24g syringe will treat a 600kg horse

Directions for Use

  • Adjust dosage control dial to your horse’s bodyweight, lock it in place and press the plunger into their mouth
  • Each weight marking on the syringe plunger will deliver 1.0g of paste
  • Unlock the knurled ring by making 1/4 turn and slide the knurled ring up the plunger shaft so that the side nearest the barrel is at the appropriate weight marking 
  • Turn the knurled ring 1/4 turn to lock in place
  • Remove the plastic cap from the tip of the nozzle
  • Make sure the horse's mouth does not contain feed
  • Insert the syringe into the side of the horse's mouth in the gap between the front and back teeth 
  • Advance the plunger as far as it will go, depositing the medication on the rear of the tongue 
  • Immediately raise the horse's head for a few seconds after dosing to ensure the full dose has been swallowed 

Note

  • Resolution of summer sores involving extensive tissue changes may require other appropriate therapy in conjunction with treatment with EQUIMEC Paste
  • Reinfection and measures for its prevention should also be considered
  • Consult your veterinarian if the condition does not improve
  • To be used in horses ONLY - do not use in other animal species 
  • Meat withholding period: Do not use less than 21 days before slaughter for human consumption 

Suggested Parasite Control Program

  • All horses should be included in a regular parasite control program with particular attention paid to mares, foals and yearlings 
  • Foals should be treated initially at 6-8 weeks of age, and routine treatment repeated as appropriate 
  • EQUIMEC is highly effective against gastrointestinal, cultaneous and pulmonary nematodes and bots of horses of all ages
  • With its broad spectrum, EQUIMEC is well suited to be the major product in a parasite control program 
  • Because reinfection is common, treatment must be repeated routinely for effective control
