Cleaning and caring for your pet's ears is a necessary task which helps reduce the chance of ear infections and excess wax build up.
It might not be the easiest task to perform and your pet may not like you for it, but at-home examinations and regular ear cleaning are great ways to detect potential infections and other ear issues early.
Tools you will need: Ear cleanser, ear wipes, cotton balls or pads (never use cotton swabs, they can hurt your pet's ears), towel (because it can get messy) and a treat.
If you want professional advice before trying this method at home, visit a pet retailer or call your local vet.
If your pet has itchy, red, inflamed or extremely smelly ears, visit your local vet before you start cleaning.

Step-by-step process:
  • Give your pet a treat and show them the cleaning solution
  • Gently hold the flap of the ear upright and fill the ear canal with ear cleaner
  • Hold their head as best you can and massage the base of the ear gently for 20 seconds
  • Stand back and let you pet vigorously shake their head
  • With an ear wipe or cotton ball/pad, wipe out the folds at the opening of the ear canal until it looks clean
  • Give your pet a treat and then repeat on the other ear
